Discovering the ancient icons
Inauguration of the precious works of art exhibition at the Palazzo della Provincia from La Stampa of 15.09.2000

In the Palazzo della Provincia of Biella it is shown the exhibition "Ancient Russian Icons", organised by the province administration in collaboration with the Region Piemonte and the general consulate of the Russian Federation. "Among our cultural initiatives this exhibition is certainly one of the most important - so comments upon the president of the province Orazio Scanzio - the meaning of the icons is strongly evocative and symbolic and bring us to a new interpretation of the religion under new facets."

Two are the conferences (entitled "Ancient Russian icons, how and why") held by Mauro Pozzati who says: "it is necessary to search the reading key of the icons to understand them. They are different and far from the artistic interpretation of the catholic culture. They have a ever-temporal character, for such reason an icon of the early Middle Ages is stylistically identical to one of the 19th century.

Nothing is casual in a real icon, from the kind of wood chosen to the colours used, from the technique of working to the meaning contained in the icon. The conferences held during the exhibition will show these cultural subjects.
