The divine message in a painting
Ancient Russian icons from the Eikon Gallery of Biella exhibited at Palazzo Ruggiero in Rome, from Il Giornale di Roma of 19.04.97

Images filled with spirituality and history.

The Russian icons are not just a religious representation, but they authentically features the direct dialogue between the human being and the divinity. Their preciousness is given by the exclusive relationship with the trascendent world, the rarity of been proclaimed in 1921 "Russian national artistic heritage".

The exibition at the Eikon gallery in the halls of the ancient Ruggieri palace at 24 corso Vittorio Emanuele run by Mauro Pozzati, iconologist of the familia piemontese, gives an unrepeteable chance to admire a stunning heritage of 70 tables.

The selected icons come from private collections of several west countries: they come from either Usa or Germany, from Italy or Israel and were crafted from early 1500 to the second half of 1800. After this date, Pozzati says, the icon loses its religious significance of divine message to assume an estethic value, as well as its primary simpleness to meet the commercial aims and the eastern taste.
