Ancient Russian icons
The exhibition –Eikon Gallery - via Torino 55 -Biella from La Repubblica of 17.01.1996

Mauro Pozzati presents a selection of Russian icons, the exhibition is patronized by the region Piemonte and the General Consulate of the Russian Federation. This is a cultural initiative showing ancient pieces datable from 1600 to 1800.

The richly illustrated catalogue issued by the iconologist Mauro Pozzati approaches and guides the inexperienced reader to know an artistic expression which is at the same time poetry and iconographical scenery of the Russian religiousness.

The madonna of Tikvin of the 18th century is one of the most revered icons of the ortodox church, it is painted with egg temper on a gold background with lifts of gilt metal.

The dress of the Madonna is decorated with beads and colorful glasses. Beautiful and complex is the Madonna of the burning bush, icon painted in 1700. The Madonna, holding Jesus in his arm, is represented as a celestial sovereign, gathered round by the angels with the symbols of the forces of the nature.

The exposed pieces are 55, some of them are authentical jewels.
