Icons, a great lesson of faith
Exhibition and conference of the expert Mauro Pozzati at Biella from il Biellese of 31.10.1995 also mentioned by La Nuova provincia of 7.10.1995

The Biellese critic Bruno Pozzato has presented the theme of the evening "ancient Russian icons, how and why" in the presence of Joury Pakhomov, general consul of the Russian federation of Milan and northern Italy. The chairman was Mauro Pozzati, expert of fine arts and antique dealing. Fascinating and mysterious, the world of the ancient Russian icons is stunning for the deeply religious significance of its paintings and the particular expressive strength used to depict the sacred characters:Christ, the Virgin and the Saints.

Authentic "emanations" of the Divine, vehicles of the circulation of the Holy Spirit inspiring the hand of the painting artist, expression of the divine message, the icons were made after periods of prayers and penitence, so the icons are prayers indeed, synthesis of a divine message for the believers.

The icons, lacking a theological culture, are nowadays a subject more difficult to understand than in the past, but the icons remain paintings of great beauty.
